Project Description

This is a powerful Muromachi period naginata by the Izumi province smith Masakiyo (正清), accompanied by NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Kanteisho. This piece is an ubu (unshortened) example in excellent polish, with a deep sori and powerful sugata.
This naginata is attributed to Masakiyo (正清) of Izumi Province, dating to the middle to late Muromachi period, indicating a likely production date in or after the Eishō (1504–1521). Based on stated time period range it would indicate the work of the 3rd or 4th generation Masakiyo.

Sugata: naginata-zukuri shape with wide mihaba, thick kasane, and mitsumune. The blade features a deep sori and a graceful. The nakago is ubu, and signed with a nijimei (二字銘): Masakiyo (正清).
Nagasa: Approximately 1 shaku 8 sun 4 bu
Hamon: A well-executed suguha-based hamon, in ko-nie deki, with bright activities visible throughout the length of the blade.
Jihada: Tight and clear itame hada
Comes with shirasaya and fitted with a two-piece silver foil habaki of high quality. This naginata is in excellent polish with bright surfaces, clear jihada, and a healthy hamon throughout.
