Project Description

Hōshō from Yamato Province

[This blade is] ō-suriage mumei. It is with its slender mihaba, ko-kissaki, and still preserved deep koshizori of a graceful shape. The kitae is a masame that features ji-nie, chikei, and tatewari openings that appear in parallel to the forging structure. The blade is hardened in a nie-laden suguha with wide nioiguchi and displays many sunagashi and kinsuji and also features kuichigai-ba, hotsure, uchinoke, and other activities that are interwoven with the forging structure. This all combined with the interpretation of the bōshi, we clearly recognize the characteristics of early Hōshō

School (Ko-Hōshō), and within this group, Sadaoki is likely to be the maker.

Blade length ~ 64.1 cm. Written by Tanzan [Tanobe Michihiro] in April in the year of the tiger of this era (2022) + monogram.
